FICTITIOUS NAME RENEWALS APPROACHING

If you are the owner of a fictitious name in the State of Florida, it’s possible that your “DBA” may be up for renewal on December 31st 2015. A fictitious name is valid for a period of five years. After this time, the name must be renewed with the Secretary of State. If you fail to renew the fictitious name, the registration will expire, in which case, it cannot be renewed or reinstated. In this circumstance, you would need to file a new fictitious name registration with the state.

To check if your fictitious name is up for renewal, please:

  • Visit the Division of Corporations website by clicking here.
  • Search for your company’s fictitious name
  • Once you locate your fictitious name, check the expiration date

If you are indeed up for renewal in the year 2015, you will need to submit an application to renew your fictitious name. This can be done online at www.sunbiz.org. There is a $50 filing fee and typically the renewal is processed within 2-3 business days. After this has been processed, your fictitious name is valid for another five years and is available to view on the Secretary of State’s website.
