FLORIDA BUILDING CODE (FIFTH EDITION) DELAYED

On November 19th, we posted a blog on our website to inform you about two surveys being conducted by the University of Central Florida. The Florida Building Commission teamed up with the university to get some input on the delayed issues in the fifth edition of the Florida Building Code. The Florida Legislature has reached a decision, which will delay the effective date of certain sections of the Florida Building Code (fifth edition) until June 30th, 2016.

The sections included in the legislature’s decision are:

  • 4.1.2 of the Energy Volume relation to mandatory blower door testing for residential buildings
  • 6.1 of the Building Volume requiring a second fire service access elevator
  • 4 of the Residential Volume requiring mechanical ventilation for residential buildings
