DEADLINE FOR ECONOMIC IMPACT OF FLORIDA BUILDING CODE SURVEY – 11/20 AT 5PM!

The University of Central Florida has teamed up with the Florida Building Commission to conduct two surveys that pertain to the Florida building community. They are being administered as a result of the legislature’s delayed response to three sections of the Florida Building Code (fifth edition) that relate to code requirements.

If you have a high involvement with high-rise buildings or residential construction in the State of Florida, the Florida Building Commission would like to hear from you!

What are the proposed issues at hand?

  • The Florida high-rise building survey will touch on the issue within the fifth edition of the Florida Building Code, containing language that indicates it is mandatory to have a second fire service access elevator in new buildings taller than 120 feet. The issue at hand being that prior to the release of the fifth edition, the Florida Building Code required only one fire service access elevator. If you would like to place some input into the issue, please use this link to submit the survey à Please take the survey now(https://www.fsec.ucf.edu/go/elevator) (Approx. 5-30 minutes to complete)
  • The Florida residential construction survey will cover the following issues: whole-house airtightness testing (also referred to as blower door testing), whole-house air sealing (excluding duct sealing), Residential whole-house mechanical ventilation systems (which excludes occupant controlled spot ventilation in kitchens and bathrooms), and Energy Conservation volume. If this survey relates to you, you may take the survey here à Take the survey here http://fsec.ucf.edu/go/rescode. (Approx. 14-40 minutes to complete)

The above listed issues have been ongoing and ultimately delayed for over a year to allow the legislature to look further into the issues at hand. If you are interested in submitting your input for either one of the surveys, please remember that the deadline is this Friday, November the 15th at 5pm. If you are having any technical issues with the survey, please contact Wanda Dutton with UCF’s Solar Energy Center at (321) 638-1430.
