How to Find Help as a Contractor

If you are a contractor, your business likely started small, but over time you have worked hard to build a clientele and your projects and client base are growing, which can be hard for you to keep up. You naturally will get to a point where you will need to hire help, which would be your first employee.

Finding employees usually isn’t a fun or easy task for most people in most industries. You want to find a person whose work ethic is like yours, who is experienced, skilled, reputable, hardworking and willing to learn.

What is the easiest or best way to find a new employee?

  • If you hire someone who has less experience, you can often pay them lessHowever, remember, although it is cheaper to hire someone who is less experienced, you will spend a lot more time training them. If you do not have the time or patience for that, you must hire someone with more experience and pay them more.
  • Ask your friends, colleagues, vendors, and more if they know anyone who would like to take on a position with you. Since you know these people, you can trust they’d recommend someone who would be a good fit.
  • Don’t be afraid to post that you’re looking for help on social media, as well. You can cast a wider net that way, especially if your contacts share your job opening.
  • Always check a person’s references before hiring them. These references will be able to tell you how they are as a worker.
