Do You Need to Offer a Craftsmanship Warranty?

If you are a skilled contractor with a license, you may want to offer a craftsmanship warranty, despite your talents and years of experience.

Many clients may like the idea of this warranty if they have been hurt by past contractors. It also can give clients a peace of mind that the work that they won’t have to pay all the costs to fix the job if it didn’t come out as planned. It’s a good idea to have one for new clients that do not know you or your work. This warranty shows your promises aren’t just given by your word but they’re in writing.

A craftsmanship warranty is about the job and how you did the work including prep work, actual installation and the work of all your subcontractors.

For your business, you should write up a craftsman warranty to specifically define what is included or not and for what time period. You don’t want clients to take advantage of you and expect you to fix things forever that aren’t entirely even related to the job you did. So, take some time and specifically define what your warranty will include. You want to protect yourself while also making your clients feel good about working with you.

As a contractor, we think it’s a good idea for you to add this type of warranty to your business, just remember to be very detailed!

Warranties aren’t the only things that make a contractor trustworthy…contractor licenses show you are working legally and are serious about your craft.
