When to Apply for Your Florida Contractor License

Whether you want to be an electrician, plumber or swimming pool contractor, it’s in your best interest to look up the requirements for a specialty contractor license before starting the application process.

You want to make sure you have the proper education, experience, and tests under your belt. Many licenses require you to pass certain exams before applying for/obtaining a license.

Once you’ve passed the test and believe you fit all the other criteria, it is now time to apply for a Florida contractor’s license.

If you reach out to our team at Licenses, Etc., we can let you know fast if you have all the requirements needed for the license that you want to apply for. We will let you know if you are missing any experience, any tests, insurance, education, fees, etc. The application process takes time, so you want to make sure you have everything the first time so that you don’t have to go through the process multiple times.

The licensing process is through the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board who falls under the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR)

Before getting licensed, you must also obtain liability and workers’ compensation insurance to begin working. Before you apply for your license, you should always check your credit score and work on making it higher. Usually, your credit needs to be above 650, but you can purchase a surety bond if your score is lower.
